Electronic Publication: an open e-book standard by the IDPF/W3C. It uses XHTML, CSS, and a ZIP container to create reflowable digital books compatible with most e-readers.

EPUB: The Open E-Book Standard

EPUB is the most widely supported e-book format, compatible with Apple Books, Google Play Books, Kobo, and virtually every e-reader except Amazon Kindle (which uses its own KFX format). EPUB 3, the current version, supports XHTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, MathML, embedded fonts, audio/video, and accessibility features. An EPUB file is essentially a ZIP archive containing structured XHTML content, a navigation document, and metadata. Its reflowable layout adapts content to any screen size, making it ideal for text-heavy publications.
